The Best Black Friday Shopping Apps

Getting ready for the holidays is all about planning, planning, planning. So we rounded up five great apps for organizing your shopping and budgeting.

One of the first apps contributor Jill Krasny highlighted is Slice, a very useful app free to Droid users that can keep track of all of the packages your shipping this holiday season. Great for people who do all their holiday shopping online and for coupon addicts who want to organize their vouchers, too.

It’s easy to associate the holiday season with mass consumerism. After all, it’s the biggest spending season of the year and it all kicks off on Black Friday, which rings in an estimated $52 billion spending spree for the entire holiday weekend. That’s why it’s so refreshing to read an article on what you should NOT buy this weekend.

The U.S. News article lists winter clothing, toys and Christmas decorations as some of the must-avoid items for this Black Friday weekend. The thinking behind this strategy is that seasonal items like winter clothes and holiday decor might be discounted, but you can get a way better deal on these items after the holiday season is over, when the demand is lower. The toy explanation is equally interesting — it’s all about timing. Toys tend to go on sale in the last two weeks before Christmas, when retailers discount deeply to sell their whole inventory. There is one exception for the toy category, however — toys that are in high demand, like the Wii U. Don’t wait to buy these items, U.S. News advises.

5 Black Friday Budget Survival Strategies

The real challenge of Black Friday isn’t necessarily finding everything you need for the holidays, it’s more likely finding everything at prices you can afford. So the debt experts at ReadyforZero decided to equip you with some important budget survival strategies.

A few of the highlights:

  • Make a list and check it twice.
  • Don’t be afraid to veer from the list if you find a better option for someone, but make sure you return anything you already purchased for that person.
  • Grow your budget by selling items you don’t need or want anymore.
